Hearing from our Norland Nannies at The Little Blue Door

Laura talks about the two years she trained at Norland college and what she learnt.

Let’s hear a bit more from Laura our Deputy Manager and Room Leader of Baby Snapdragon:

“Norland Nannies are trained Early Years professionals who all trained at Norland College. This training is unique in not only providing you with a childcare qualification (today’s students study for a BA in Early Years Development and Learning) but also gaining the Norland Diploma. Norland gives you a wealth of practical experience that allows you to go on and provide the best quality care for children in your role. It provides endless career opportunities for the nannies who graduate and offers lifelong support and continual professional development opportunities.

My experience at Norland College was so positive. I had the most amazing time studying in Bath and making friends whilst doing something I had always wanted to do! I have always wanted to work in childcare and wanted to provide the best care possible to help little ones thrive and when I heard about Norland and its amazing reputation I knew I wanted to go there.

I started at Norland in 2009 and remember feeling overwhelmed as I put on the iconic uniform for the first time and walking in to college alongside my new housemates but quickly was made to feel very welcome and got used to the uniform quickly and felt very proud to wear it.

I gained so much knowledge and skills throughout my time at Norland, learning everything from changing terry towelling nappies and making bottles to skid pan training and self defence! I got to experience some amazing placements with children ranging from newborn up to the age of 8. I also had the chance to support mums who had just given birth on a maternity ward, supporting them to bath their newborn babies and help with the care of them. I also spent time in family placements - cooking and helping with the general day to day care, schools, nurseries and on a paediatric ward.

The knowledge and experience I gained in my two years was incredible! I then went on to nanny for a family with two boys ages 1 and 3 at the time and lived in. I got to take the boys to groups, the park, trips, cook for them and take care of nursery duties whilst providing the boys with educational, fun experiences.

I will always be so proud and thankful for the training I gained and to be part of a world-renowned organisation which has provided nannies for royalty and provided me with the knowledge to go on and achieve in my career.

I am always around to offer a friendly ear or the benefit of my years of experience and training, you only have to ask!

Thanks”

Laura Chamberlain.
