Create charming, personalised Christmas cards with your little ones - a simple way to share a lovely keepsake with family and friends.
How to make your footprint reindeer cards - step-by-step
You’ll need: baby-safe, non-toxic washable paint; plain or coloured card of your choice; soft brush or sponge; black/brown pen; red paint for the nose; baby wipes; a towel; protective mat/apron.
- Prepare your space: Lay down a protective mat or newspaper, have wipes and a towel ready. Use an apron for yourself and clothes you don’t mind your little ones possibly getting messy.
- Paint your little ones print: Pour a small amount of baby-safe paint onto a tray. Use a soft brush or sponge to gently cover the sole of the foot (avoid toes getting too much paint if you can). Choose brown or a warm colour for the reindeer or make them multi-coloured for a little extra creativity!
- Print the footprint: Gently press the painted sole onto the middle of the card or where you want the reindeer’s head - the toes become the top of the head, the heel is the bottom of the reindeer face. Lift carefully to keep the print neat. Repeat for as many cards as you want.
- Dry and clean: Use wipes and warm water to clean your little one’s foot straight away. Let the prints dry fully before decorating.
- Add antlers and a red nose: With a brown or black pen, draw antlers extending from the top of the footprint and add eyes - you could use a pen or googly eyes!
- Fingertip nose: Dip either yours or your little one’s fingertip into red, baby-safe paint and press onto the bottom of the reindeer face. Alternatively, use a red sticker, red pen or pom-pom for a festive finish.
- Write a message: Add your message to loved ones, don’t forget to add your little one’s name and date.
Tips: Always use paint labelled baby-safe/non-toxic, do a patch test if unsure, supervise at all times, and have fun - imperfect prints are the best memories!
These step-by-step Christmas cards make a lovely keepsake for parents and grandparents, family and friends.
