Autumn is a wonderful season to enjoy the outdoors with your little ones.
As the leaves turn golden and the air grows crisp, autumn is the perfect time to get outside with little ones. Exploring nature not only supports children’s physical development but also sparks curiosity and a love of the world around them as well as boosting everyone's wellness.
Chichester and its surroundings offer plenty of accessible walks that are ideal for babies, toddlers and pushchairs. Here are five of our favourite family-friendly routes.
Chichester Canal Towpath
Stretching from Chichester Basin to Hunston, this smooth 2.5-mile towpath is ideal for buggies. Children can spot herons, kingfishers and even water voles along the way - accessible and full of wonderful, local wildlife.
Centurion Way
Once a railway line, this wide and flat path runs from Chichester to West Dean. Sculptures dotted along the trail add extra interest for young explorers as well as scenic countryside views.
Pagham Harbour to Sidlesham Quay
This short two-mile circular walk starts at the visitor centre and offers peaceful wetland views. It is completely flat, free of steps or stiles, and includes bird hides and resting spots.
Priory Park, Chichester
In the heart of the city, Priory Park is a gentle option for families. Its smooth paths, medieval walls and open spaces provide plenty of room for toddlers to run and play. You could even add in a stop at one of Chichester’s many family-friendly coffee shops!
Pagham Harbour Wetland Trail
Another accessible option at Pagham Harbour, this loop is flat and easy with chances to enjoy wildlife up close.
These walks combine fresh air, gentle exercise and the joy of discovering nature together. They are perfect for building family memories while supporting your family’s wellbeing - fresh air does wonders for everyone.
Pack a snack, wrap up warm and enjoy all that autumn in Chichester has to offer.
